The Social Media “Revolution”
Within the past decade, social media has taken the world by storm. Social media platforms have become a way for society to communicate with each other and share their lives. Social media has allowed for individuals to share as much, or as little, of their life as they want to world to know. Some people choose to use social media to keep up with friends and family who may live far from them, some choose to use social media to share their opinions and beliefs with the world, and some purely use social media for enjoyment and a good laugh. However, there are many debates associated with social media. Individuals are not use to everyone on earth being able to see what they post, but that is one of the downsides of this trend. Once something is posted to the Internet, it never truly goes away. This means individuals must be smart when using these platforms, but unfortunately, people are not always conscientious of their actions.
I believe social media is somewhat of a revolution because it has caused major change with how people interact with themselves and others. A societal change has occurred because of this development, and society is always evolving from social media. Whether it is keeping up with politics or new “trends”, social media has become an everyday occurrence for many.
Social media has created a community within itself. People with common interests or common friends find each other. The shared information between people establishes a connection, one that would be difficult without being able to use social media to find each other.
Below is a form of social media called TikTok. TikTok is a video based social media platform, in which people post videos of themselves doing various activities. I made a video with myself, Erin Simard, and Laura Bullock as a part of my collaboration.
